Yesterday (April 25), DMX was laid to rest after his family and friends shared fond memories and loving words at his “Homegoing Celebration” funeral service. As the ceremony took place, more tributes poured in on social media, including one from the late rapper’s former collaborator, Benny the Butcher.
In an Instagram post shared on Benny’s page, he recalled his first-ever meetup with DMX, which he would have missed if it weren’t for N.O.R.E.
“A couple months ago was my first time meeting X,” the Buffalo rapper. “He was pullin up but was takin forever, and I had some important shit to do and a flight to catch.
“@therealnoreaga was like u gotta miss th[a]t flight. This X so I miss that one and whole other one waitin to meet the Dog.”
With the help of Zoey Dollaz, the Butcher secured a third flight after his meeting with DMX. He continued, “My boy @zoeydollaz booked a third one for me, and I caught th[a]t. It was worth it cuz we kicked it, played his album & my shit in the parkin lot for hours eatin caviar, smokin and drinking ace, and talkin our shit. RIP DMX.”
According to an online clip of Benny and DMX bumping to some unreleased music, the rappers met in February. The “Legend” star and his Griselda team are features on the album X was teasing before his untimely death.
As REVOLT previously reported, the forthcoming DMX album was recorded in Snoop Dogg’s L.A. studio after their infamous Verzuz battle.
“He actually did his whole album at my studio when we finished Verzuz,” Snoop told 97. “He never left. He stayed in L.A. and rented my studio out and did his whole album. I cooked for them, I laid it out for them. I made it feel like mi casa es su casa.”
“That was the best moment; that he felt comfortable enough to do his album at my spot, and he didn’t leave until it was done,” he added.
