Drake’s addition to Young Stoner Life’s Slime Language 2 marked an album highlight for many fans. However, Gunna revealed to Billboard, “Solid” was not originally recorded for the Young Thug-led record label’s latest compilation effort.
Speaking with the outlet, Gunna — who appears on the track alongside Drake and Thug — revealed “Solid” was originally a cut for Drizzy’s forthcoming and highly anticipated album, Certified Lover Boy.
“Drake had originally sent me the song for his album and I did it and we was vibing with it for a minute,” Gunna said.
With Certified Lover Boy’s delay, Gunna persuaded Drake to allow Thugger & Co. to release it as a track on Slime Language 2.
“… His album didn’t come out and I was still vibing with it,” Gunna explained. “And I’m like ‘Shit, bro, I wanna put it on Slime Language 2. Let’s put Slime on it.’ And he was like extra with it and we did and that’s how that came together.”
With the addition of Thug, “Solid” became track No. 4 on Slime Language 2, which also received a deluxe version today (April 23).
Although Drake has stayed active on recent songs with Gunna and Young Thug, 21 Savage and more, fans are still waiting for his sixth studio effort. Certified Lover Boy was initially set for a January release, but was postponed while Drake recovers from his knee surgery.
While The Boy himself has not announced a new release date, many have speculated about when the project might arrive. In February, DJ Akademiks claimed Certified Lover Boy would drop this month.
“Drake told me that it’s gonna be dropping before April,” he said at the time. “So, he’s not waiting until summer to drop his shit… April or before.”
He added, “He spent so much time on this project. He’s not trying to put out a surprise project. He’s gonna let people know at least a week before.”
