While Hip Hop continues to serve as medicine and a pleasant, therapeutic thing for millions of people across the world, New York rap is still one of the most elite and Lil Tjay is one of rap’s brightest rising talents today. Since the release of his first EP No Comparison back in 2018, Tjay hasn’t looked back and it’s evident he’s just getting started. With other rising New York rappers like Fivio Foreign, 22Gz, Sleepy Hallow, Sheff G and many more putting on, Lil Tjay fits perfectly within the puzzle. Today, he delivers his second studio album Destined 2 Win and it’s quite thorough.
To promote the album, the 19-year-old rapper orchestrated a pretty solid trailer to get fans hyped — and he executed with precision. Narrated by the legendary boxer Mike Tyson, the one minute visual spoke volumes. Guiding the South Bronx native to greatness, the trailer shows Lil Tjay as a boxer who get knocked down by his opponent. As he tries to get himself together, the voice of Tyson encourages him to get up and be the best rapper ever. “With this passion, you will be unstoppable,” he tells Tjay, who finally manages to get up and defeat his opponent.
Tjay also gave the reasoning for the album’s title: “I named the album Destined 2 Win cause I always felt like something in me was meant to be great,” he wrote on Instagram. “Even when shit tried stop me it never did and I kept getting up!!”
Spanning over a total of 21 records, Lil Tjay tapped on some of the industry’s hottest acts to assist with the album’s success: 6lack, Fivio Foreign, Saweetie, Polo G, Tyga, Toosii, Offset, and CMG’s own Moneybagg Yo. This album is the perfect follow up to his debut album True 2 Myself and is definitely worth some playlist adds.
