Congratulations are in order for Jeezy, who is now married to “The Real” co-host Jeannie Mai!
As Vogue reported, the lovebirds — who initially had plans to get married in the South of France or at Lake Como in Italy — exchanged vows on Saturday (March 27) in an intimate ceremony that took place in the open garden at their Atlanta home.
Their change in plans, Mai explained, came after the loss of Jeezy’s mother, who had a seat reserved for her at the wedding.
“We were really looking forward to having all of our friends and family there to celebrate,” Mai said.
“But we had to change all of our wedding plans due to COVID[-19]. After Jeezy’s mother unexpectedly passed, we quickly learned that life is too short. And at the end of the day, Jeezy and I really just wanted to become husband and wife. So we decided to turn our original wedding into a mini-mony, where we exchanged our vows in front of our immediate family and a few close friends.”
According to Mai, the guests — who were unaware of the ceremony’s location — were required to have negative COVID-19 test results two days before the wedding and were given another test to take at the ceremony. “Once everyone was tested and confirmed negative, our guests were shuttled to the surprise location—our home,” she told Vogue.
Phones were checked upon arrival, and attendees went on to the enjoy the wedding, which was complete with a live band, a Vietnamese tea ceremony — a ritual performed at Vietnamese weddings — and a performance by Tyrese, who serenaded Mai with his single, “Sweet Lady.”
The celebration later moved to the couple’s lounge, where the pajama-themed after party went down.
Jeezy and Mai’s wedding comes exactly one year after the rapper popped the big question. At the time, COVID-19 got in the way of his plans to propose in Vietnam, so he adjusted to the changes and brought the country to Los Angeles, where the couple was isolating at the time.
