Gorilla Glue’s sales have reportedly skyrocketed following Tessica Brown’s infamous hair saga. According to AdAge, Gorilla Glue Google searches increased 50 times in February from January. “More importantly, the brand’s Amazon search volume soared an even bigger 4,378%, and its best-seller rank rose 129%,” reports the outlet.
“Brown’s bad news was their good news,” Robert Passikoff, founder and president of consultancy Brand Keys, told the outlet. “Nobody died. It’s one of those things where from a brand perspective, almost everyone is saying, from a rational perspective, you probably ought to watch what you’re putting on your head.”
Earlier this month, Brown went viral after sharing that she used a Gorilla Glue adhesive spray to hold her hairstyle. In the video, which was shared to TikTok, she told viewers that she tried to wash the product out of her hair, but “it didn’t move.” Instead, her ponytail kept getting “tighter and tighter.”
After seeking help from friends, family and local doctors, Brown was offered to have the glue removed by Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Obeng. The surgery took four hours in total and once the glue was finally removed, Brown was elated to finally be able to run her fingers through her hair. “Jesus Christ… I can scratch it,” she said. “It’s over.”
Following the surgery, Brown had trouble accessing the funds that were donated to her through a GoFundMe account. “They won’t even release it to me because that many people have called and said it was a fraudulent account,” she previously said. “Every time you look at it, it says it’s under investigation.”
Brown wants to gift $20,000 of the money to Dr. Obeng’s Restore Worldwide reconstructive surgery center and the St. Bernard Parish in Lousiana. GoFundMe finally released the funds to her after she told them about her plans to donate the money.
