The tracklist for the Judas and the Black Messiah soundtrack was unveiled today (Feb. 9) and fans are very excited about one particular collaboration. During the forthcoming film, fans will get to hear the first-ever collaboration between JAY-Z and Nipsey Hussle.
“WE GETTING A NEW JAY-Z & NIPSEY HUSSLE COLLAB THIS FRIDAY!” one Twitter user celebrated.
According to the tracklist, JAY and Nipsey will appear together on the song “What It Feels Like.” Although the two artists never worked together while Nipsey was alive, they were connected in several ways. Seven years ago, JAY purchased 100 copies of Nipsey’s Crenshaw mixtape, which he famously sold for $100 each.
The pair are also frequently brought up in conversations about entrepreneurship and philanthropy, and now fans will get to hear them on a song together.
Besides Nipsey and JAY’s song, the Judas and the Black Messiah soundtrack will also feature music by A$AP Rocky, BJ The Chicago Kid, Black Thought, Dom Kennedy, G Herbo, Nas, Polo G, Rakim, Rapsody, Smino and more, including executive production by Hit-Boy. Last week, H.E.R. shared her song for the soundtrack, “Fight For You.”
On Twitter, Masego confirmed the tracklist and reacted to his song “Somethin Ain’t Right” being featured.
“Ahem lemme get in my Black history duffle real quick. To be on the soundtrack to Judas [and] the Black Messiah is a huge honor!” he wrote. “‘Somethin’ Aint Right’ is the tune. And to share this moment with the Queen [Rapsody] and my good Brutha [JID] makes this moment even better!”
Directed by Shaka King, Judas and the Black Messiah tells the story of Black Panther Party Chairman Fred Hampton’s betrayal by FBI informant William O’Neal. The film, which stars Daniel Kaluuya and LaKeith Stanfield, debuts on HBO Max this Friday (Feb. 12).
