Just as January came to a close, Nechie dropped off his Shady Baby project. The new offering was led by his Durk-assisted “Like A Dream” single, and now he’s celebrating the official release of the project by sharing a new visual for “Stackin’ It.” The track features Gunna, who happens to be a childhood friend of Nechie and also executive-produced Shady Baby. For his verse, Gunna slides in over the Turbo and Wheezy co-produced beat:
I’m back in it. Me and Young Nechie is back in it (Back in it). Straight off the beat, Gunna rappin’ it. Used to have bands and they cappin’ it./ Stars in the ceiling, they galaxy. Bitches with different nationalities./ You fuck n***as ‘cause a commodity. Shoot him up, leave his body on./ Wasn’t the type to be born in that life, but still got me some stripes like a referee. I was still holdin’ on but they thought I was off. When I took that lil’ loss, they weren’t there for me.
The project includes additional production from the home crew including Turbo, Wheezy, AJ Stay Workin and more, while Gunna, Yak Gotti and Lil Durk make guest appearances. The process of making Shady Baby was kept in Nechie’s close supportive circle. “We always support each other’s music; it’s an everyday thing,” says Nechie about working with Gunna. “We grew up together, right across the street from each other and have been making music since we were young. Collaborating for us is just something we have always done.”
After signing to Young Thug’s YSL Records in 2016, Nechie continued working on his own music, in addition to making appearances on several well-loved projects. He made some assists on childhood friend Gunna’s widely celebrated Drip Season mixtape series and also hopped on “Slimed In” off Slime Language. He drew the attention of major labels, eventually signing with Interscope in late 2018. Nechie made his label debut with SSN:Southside Nechie (The Full Story) released in 2019.
