And in “the most random story you’ve read today” news, former “106 & Park” co-host AJ Calloway is now the talk of the Twitter streets because of a video someone posted on the social media app that insinuates that his dreadlocks were not only fake on the show, but a lace front wig. We can’t make this up.
A Twitter user by the name @Krys_King started this hoopla and now Black Twitter is questioning whether or not their childhoods were all a lie. If you used to be an avid fan of the previous music countdown show on BET, then you know what we’re talking about. Watchers used to tune into the program to catch the biggest music videos at the time, and we all felt like Calloway and his co-host Free were like extended members of our families. And in regard to the male host specifically, his hair was a memorable trait that we loved about him. So, to see that there could be a possibility that we didn’t know that his dreads weren’t fake feels like a complete slap in the face.
“I still don’t understand why AJ from 106 and Park chose to fool us every single fuckin day wearing a full lace front. What was the point?!!!” the tweet showing Calloway having a dreaded wig placed on his head reads. Check it out below.
Naturally — pun intended — fans immediately began reacting with shock and dismay after viewing the clip. “I NEVER knew they weren’t real. Wow I feel played,” one person replied, while another said, “Ooohh God, everyday my childhood is getting ruined. I can’t breathe.”
Since then, Calloway saw all of the commotion and took to his Instagram stories to admit that his dread were, indeed, real back in his “106 & Park” days. This clip is a newer one. “Why does this have me laughing so hard!” he said. “My hair was real back then.” Peep that reveal below.
