Jhené Aiko continues her role as a healer through music as she shares her newest performance, a soulful medley of Chilombo cuts. The new offering not only consists of her fan-favorites, but acts as an incredibly soothing session filled with transitions of her chanting calming mantras and playing her sound bowls, easing any anxiety listeners may be experiencing. While her fireplace crackles in the background, the songstress opens up her medley with the reflective lyrics of “Triggered”:
Go figure, you were the trigger. You brought me to an obstructed view when you knew the picture was bigger. Who am I kiddin’? Knew from the beginning. You’d ruin everything, you do it every time. You are my enemy, you are no friend of mine, muhfucker. You muhfuckin’ right. You muhfuckin’ right, I’m bitter. You muhfuckin’ right, I’m triggered. You muhfuckin’ right, I…
Back in March, Aiko unveiled her third studio album Chilombo. From the project, she also dropped a music video for her song “A&B.” The 20 track-album included features from Ab-Soul, Big Sean, Future, Miguel, Nas, H.E.R., John Legend, Ty Dolla $ign, and debuted at the number two spot on the Billboard 200 thanks to an impressive 152,000 album equivalent units sold during its first week of release. Months after, she unleashed a deluxe version of the album.
Jhené has been incorporating the art of sound healing into her music as a way to help listeners get through hard times. “Because I have been studying sound healing, I did want this album to have an actual, proven healing technique in every track,” she said in a recent interview. “Not only could people listen to it and relate, it could also balance out different parts of their body, [make them] feel better, and have it actually be an experience to listen to the songs.”
