The Billboard 200 chart numbers are in, and Playboi Carti is celebrating his first No. 1 album. According to Billboard, the Atlanta native’s Whole Lotta Red debuted at the top spot this week after accumulating 100,000 equivalent album units since its Christmas Day release. The sophomore album fell slightly short of its predicted 125,000 to 135,000 units; but still made enough to dethrone Taylor Swift’s Evermore.
On Twitter, Carti reacted to the feat and thanked his fans.
“!!!!! wTF,” he wrote Sunday evening (Jan. 3). “wE r # 1 > mY fANs. >”
Prior to Whole Lotta Red, Carti peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 with his 2018 debut album, Die Lit. Before that, his 2017 self-titled mixtape reached No. 12 on the chart.
Now that Whole Lotta Red has made its Billboard 200 debut, fans have started getting excited for the album’s deluxe version. On Twitter, Carti announced that he would release an extend edition of the project, which originally featured appearances by Kanye West, Kid Cudi and Future.
“dELuxE oTW,” he tweeted, along with, “tALk 2 me > WAT sOng . d0 u neeD oN deLuxE >> ??????”
Although Carti hasn’t revealed when he’s planning to release the deluxe version, Twitter users have already started sharing their picks for potential collaborations and fan-made cover arts. The original Whole Lotta Red artwork featured a black-and-white Carti and was inspired by the rock magazine Slash covers.
In other chart news, Lil Durk’s The Voice jumped up to No. 3 this week, marking his third Top 10 album. Megan Thee Stallion’s debut LP Good News also reentered the Billboard 200 Top 10, settling at No. 7. Rounding off the chart’s Top 10 is Eminem’s Music to Be Murdered By, which recently received a Side B deluxe version.
