Playboi Carti’s Whole Lotta Red may have received mixed reviews, but it looks like it might become his first No. 1 album.
After teasing the album for months, the Atlanta rapper sent his fans and critics alike into a frenzy when he dropped it on Christmas Day. Less than 48 hours after the album’s release (Dec. 27), HitsDailyDouble predicts that WLR is projected to sell at least 125,000 – 135,000 units, and debut at the top of the Billboard 200 chart. With those numbers, it’s possible that Carti could knock off Taylor Swift’s recent Evermore album from the No. 1 spot.
Playboi Carti’s sophomore album contains 24 tracks including collaborations with Kanye West. Kid Cudi, and Future. Other stand-out tracks include “JumpOutDaHouse” and “Slay3r.” As if the album isn’t long enough, Carti is planning to release the deluxe version of the album.
“tALk 2 me > WAT sOng . d0 u neeD oN deLuxE >> ??????” Carti tweeted to his followers the day after he dropped his album.
The “@MEH” rapper completely shocked his fans last week when he confirmed the final release date and posted the official album cover on social media. The cover was inspired by the iconic rock publication Slash magazine, which always featured a black-and-white image accompanied by the bloody red Slash logo at the top. Carti mimicked the cover by using a fairly older photo of his younger self without his notable dreads. Once the album dropped, fans couldn’t resist breaking down each song to decipher all of Carti’s lyrics.
The release of Whole Lotta Red comes just a week before Carti is expected to perform live on New Year’s Eve. According to an Instagram post uploaded yesterday, Cyberwurld will livestream a free concert on Twitch beginning at 8 p.m. on Dec. 31. With Carti as the headliner, other artists like Sada Baby, $not and more will also perform.
