After months of speculating, Playboi Carti fans finally have an official release date for Whole Lotta Red. On Tuesday (Dec. 22), the elusive Atlanta rapper shared his highly anticipated album’s cover art and confirmed that the record will drop this Friday, which is also Christmas Day (Dec. 25).
“LINK IN BI0. LINK N BI0. YESss LOVE,” he wrote alongside the album’s Slash Magazine-esque artwork on Instagram.
Carti hasn’t shared the Whole Lotta Red tracklist yet, but in a post last week he revealed that Kid Cudi will be featured on the effort.
Along with the release date and artwork, Carti also dropped a new Whole Lotta Red merchandise line, which includes t-shirts, shorts, hoodies, hats and more.
The announcement is definitely a big breakthrough for fans, as Carti has been teasing his album’s release since last year. In November, he told fans he’d finally turned the finished project in, and a tweet in early December revealed that the album was “AbOUT 2 dRoP.”
Whole Lotta Red will follow-up Carti’s one-off single “@ MEH” from April and his appearance on Drake’s Dark Lane Demo Tapes. Carti released his last album, Die Lit, in 2018.
Earlier this year, the 24-year-old also welcomed his first son, Onyx Carter, with rapper Iggy Azalea. Although the new parents have kept their son out of the spotlight, Azalea confirmed the child’s birth in an Instagram post.
“I have a son. I kept waiting for the right time to say something but it feels like the more time passes the more I realize I’m always going to feel anxious to share news that giant with the world,” she wrote. “I want to keep his life private but wanted to make it clear his is not a secret and I love him beyond words.”
