King Von was on the cusp of stardom when he tragically died in early November. The 26-year-old had just released his new album Welcome To O’Block, cracked the Billboard 200 and reached viral success with his “Crazy Story” single series. Now, Von’s impact in his home city and beyond has been memorialized with a new Chicago billboard.

A fan and DJ Akademiks noted the billboard’s installation over the weekend and shared a photo of the tribute on social media. The billboard includes a picture of the late rapper, as well as the message, “Long Live King Von.”

As reported by REVOLT, the Von was fatally shot outside of an Atlanta nightclub last month. At the time, his family shared a statement thanking his fans for their support.

“Thank you to everyone who has showed their outpouring of love for King Von,” their statement read. “You all played a massive role in Von’s accomplishments, and by continuing to play his music and sharing your stories about how he has inspired and influenced you all, you’re keeping his legacy alive.”

“To celebrate Von’s artistry, vision and the immense love that he had for his fans, we will be continuing his roll out of Welcome to O’Block, while working to share unreleased music and interviews that he devoted his creativity into completing,” it continued. “Von had also been working on new endeavors that we will be announcing down the line.”

On Tuesday (Dec. 8), Von’s first posthumous music video was released for “Wayne’s Story,” which was the closing track on Welcome to O’Block. Von collaborated with several fellow Chi-Town natives for his album — including Lil Durk, Dreezy and Polo G, the latter of which remembered him fondly on Instagram.

“Man I hate that shit happened to Von He Was on his Way To bein a Real [star],” he wrote about his “The Code” collaborator.

“Was a real one & a good hearted ni**a fasho,” he added.
