Jhené Aiko just grabbed another major accomplishment as her Chilombo project secured a Grammy nomination last week, and in perfect timing, the songstress shortly after released her video for “Born Tired.” The soothing visual sees a series of clips showing Jhené in various calm settings, from scenes in nature to playing the song alongside her band in a blow up fun house, all matching the relaxed flow of the song:
It’s been a long night, long life, long time fighting. Let out a long sigh. Alright, why am I trying? ’Cause look at how far you have come, and look at all that you have going. Look at who you have become. Baby, you gotta keep going. Ooh, rest your weary heart. Dry your teary eyes. I know you are scarred, and torn apart inside. Inside, inside, inside. Darlin’, so am I, so am I.
Jhené Aiko also recently dropped a new video for her song “A&B.” Back in March, unveiled her third studio album Chilombo. The 20 track-album included features from Ab-Soul, Big Sean, Future, Miguel, Nas, H.E.R., John Legend, Ty Dolla $ign, and debuted at the number two spot on the Billboard 200 thanks to an impressive 152,000 album equivalent units sold during its first week of release. A month after, she unleashed a deluxe version of the album.
During an interview with Elliott Wilson on his TIDAL series Car Test, Jhene delved into the true meaning behind the song, which stems from a mindset she’s had her whole life:
“Baby, I was born tired! I think that it was always a concept in my mind […] When I see pictures of me as a little kid, I just look like I’m over it, not even over it, but like ‘I’ve seen this before’ and maybe I’m on my twelfth life. For me, I listen to that song as just inspiration to keep going, you know, through my exhaustion. Before we did it acoustic, it was kinda like a drag but then I was like, actually, this song should be inspirational.”
