It’s been about about a year since Cordae unveiled his debut album The Lost Boy, which saw 15 tracks from the DMV-based star with additional appearances from Chance The Rapper, Anderson .Paak, Ty Dolla $ign, Pusha T, Arin Ray, and Meek Mill. Since then, Cordae has appeared on a slew of other songs, including H.E.R.’s “Racks,” Aminé’s “Blackjack (Remix),” Stevie Wonder’s “Can’t Put It In The Hands Of Fate,” and DJ Scheme’s “Soda.” Recently, the XXL Freshman alum also teamed up with Roddy Ricch for the new single “Gifted,” leading many to think that a new LP was in the works.
This week, Cordae adds fuel to the fire with another new single titled “The Parables,” which is produced by Nami and Cardiak and sees the emcee delivering stories from his upbringing:
“Done seen some shit within my lifetime, my light shine bright, protect your energy from poison when the python strike, my first mistake was doin’ robberies on Niken bikes, watch my moves and I’ma show you what a icon like…/
The accompanying visual comes courtesy of Sergio, and shows a drunk Cordae bringing his raps to life. He can be seen stealing and wrecking a car, getting jumped by some enemies, saving a young girl from certain danger (and then taking her lollipop), and more.
This year also saw the Cordae parting ways with his YBN collective, which first came to light following a social media announcement by YBN Nahmir. As previously reported by REVOLT, he further explained his decision during an interview with Elliott Wilson:
“Nahmir and Jay, those always gonna be my brothers in real life … Like I think the world of them cats. Sometimes as friends you grow apart, and you have different visions for what you wanna do and that’s okay. There’s no love lost.”
