Lil Wayne is giving back to his community this holiday season. Today (Nov. 24), the New Orleans-bred rapper is hosting his Tunechi’s Turkey Give-A-Way to provide Thanksgiving meals to 500 families in the area.
“Tomorrow I’ll be giving back to the people and city that raised me!!” he announced in a tweet on Monday (Nov. 23). “If you’re in Orleans, St. Charles or Jefferson Parish please visit the link and sign up to have a turkey delivered to your home. Happy holidays!”
Wayne has participated in the Young Money-led turkey drive for years, and this holiday he joined forces with former LSU football star LaRon Landry’s foundation.
“2020 has been hard for everyone with COVID and hurricanes and people are desperately in need of help. Thanksgiving is a time to reflect and give thanks while enjoying time with loved ones and helping those whose year just isn’t the same,” a Young Money press statement reads. “… The ideal goal and mission is to deliver to people that can’t make it out to purchase the essentials needed to have a blessed Thanksgiving.”
Wayne isn’t the only hip hop star who’s being charitable this Thanksgiving. This week, French Montana announced that he would team up with members of City Harvest to distribute over 500 turkeys to Bronx residents. Through the Feed Your City Challenge, Nick Cannon and Dr. Dre also came together to make sure families in Compton were well-stocked ahead of the holiday.
Wayne received criticism from fans and fellow rappers last month after endorsing Donald Trump for reelection. While speaking about his own withdrawn support for the president, 50 Cent alleged that Wayne may have been paid for his photo opp with Trump.
“Easily, he got paid,” 50 said while on “The Breakfast Club.” “He had the sweater and the picture.”
The New York MC made the claim after admitting that he himself had turned down a $1 million offer from Trump’s administration.
“They offered me $1 million to go to Trump’s inauguration. [They initially offered] $500,000 and it went up to $1 million while I was still confused with whether I should do it,” he said. “… I’m going, ‘Nah.’ I ain’t gonna put myself in that position. ‘Cause I don’t know what I’d have to do to recover from that.”
