Back in August, Chief Keef teamed up with Mike WiLL Made-It for the well-received single “Bang Bang,” which was presumed to be the first official offering from the duo’s forthcoming full-length project. Over the weekend, the Chicago emcee and Atlanta beatsmith added to that with a new track titled “Status,” a creeping effort that sees Keef at his most sinister ever:
“Put him in the trunk, put him in the forest, change his name to Gump, soon as I let the window down, you gon’ smell the skunk, legendary, write my name in Rosetta Stone/
Yeah, you got a chain but you a punk, yeah, I got a pump, I let it rock like punk, four pail, triple S’s, bitch, you gettin’ stomp, speedin’ in a foreign, pockets holdin’ all the humps/”
The visual comes courtesy of Blank Square Productions, and shows Chief Keef and his henchmen with someone who’s life is clearly about to end before the video does. The criminal activity is mixed with shots of Keef and Co. in various locations within a massive residence with women, weed, money, and plenty of artillery. Unfortunately, Mike WiLL doesn’t make an appearance in the dark clip.
While he’s been releasing a slew of mixtapes over the years, it’s been five since his third studio album Bang 3, Pt. 2, a sequel to the well-received mixtape Bang 3 that altogether saw 26 cuts and features from Mac Miller, A$AP Rocky, Lil B, and more. More recently, Keef released the fourth installment of his GloFiles mixtape series this past March.
In a recent, incredibly short interview with Complex, Chief Keef spoke on his relationship with Mike WiLL Made-It, also revealing that their joint album should be dropping early 2021:
“Me and Mike Will Made-It are automatic. We have been good since I first came in.”
Until then, you can press play on “Status” below.
