Over the summer, Maluma shared the music video for his mega-hit “Hawái,” which has since garnered over 425 million views. He decided the song still needed a boost even with its success and recruits superstar The Weeknd to add his flair to the track. On the new remix, The Weeknd opens up with his part about love, and even flexes his Spanish-speaking skills later on throughout the track:
“So now he’s your heaven. You’re lying to yourself and him to make me jealous. You put on such an act when you’re sleeping together. All this cause I said I don’t want marriage, I don’t want marriage. I rather go half on a baby, cause at least I know that it’s not temporary. And at least we’ll share something that’s real. I can tell that you’re just tryna feel.”
Most recently, The Weeknd dropped off his latest visual for “Too Late,” which follows “Heartless,” “Blinding Lights,” “Until I Bleed Out,” and “In Your Eyes.” Released in March, After Hours saw 14 cuts (not counting the three tracks added as part of a deluxe edition) and additional production assistance from Metro Boomin, Max Martin, Frank Dukes, Oscar Holter, and more. The album proved to be one of the biggest selling releases of 2020, scoring 444,000 album equivalent units during its first week of release.
In a recent interview, The Weeknd opened up about “Faith,” and the deeper meaning behind the song that details a dark time in his life:
“I was getting really, really tossed up and going through a lot of personal stuff. I got arrested in Vegas [for punching a police officer; he later pleaded no contest]. It was a real rock-star era, which I’m not really proud of. You hear sirens at the end the song — that’s me in the back of the cop car, that moment. I always wanted to make that song but I never did, and this album felt like the perfect time, because [the character] is looking for an escape after a heartbreak or whatever. I wanted to be that guy again.”
