Following a collection of successful mixtapes and singles, Headie One finally liberates his debut album EDNA, which is named after the London emcee’s late mother Edna Duah, who passed away when he was only three years old. EDNA sees 20 tracks and additional features from M Huncho, Young Adz, Kaash Paige, Stormzy, Ivorian Doll, Haile, Future, Skepta, Mahalia, and more. The project was led by the singles “Only You Freestyle” with Drake, “Ain’t It Different” with AJ Tracey and Stormzy, and “Breathing.”
In addition to the new album, Headie One also liberated a couple of new visuals for “Princess Cuts,” which features Young T & Bugsey, and “Parlez-Vous Anglais,” the latter of which sees him trading bars with Aitch about popping bottles, making money, and collecting plaques over production from Ambezza:
“Old school like Ratatouille, n ow I just act a fool in Louis, Brown skin girl, caramel coulee, pockets fat, Andy Ruiz, pop that Ace of Spades, I drank from the bottle, now my outfit ruined, ah, I bought a new one, could be Newham/
F*** it, I’ll beat if thе b***h is ratchet, long as her hands and feet are matching, young Aitch don’t divе in the p***y, I take off my DsQs and backflip/”
Originally a member of OFB (or Original Farm Boys), Headie One had been making waves with hard-hitting, drill-heavy projects like Headz Or Tails, Music x Road, Gang with Fred again.., and Drillers x Trappers II with RV. He’s also been providing notable assists on tracks like Stormzy’s “Audacity,” Krept & Konan’s “I Spy,” and Young T & Bugsey’s “Don’t Rush.”
Fans can press play on both EDNA and the aforementioned visuals for “Princess Cuts” and “Parlez-Vous Anglais” below. Given the buzz behind Headie One’s new body of work, we can expect to see EDNA do well on the UK Album chart this week.
