Back in April, Florida star Rod Wave released his sophomore studio LP Pray 4 Love, which boasts 14 tracks and a single appearances from ATR Son Son on the single “Rags2Riches,” a track that has proven to be Rod Wave’s biggest hit to date, peaking at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100. Since then, he released a deluxe version of the chart-topping project that sees an additional 11 cuts, including the Yo Gotti-assisted “Sack Right” and “Rags2Riches 2,” the latter of which sees Lil Baby adding to its emotionally charged predecessor:
“I went from rags to riches, I still go back to the trenches, we had to smash some n***as, no silver spoons, we had plastic utensils, he just came home, he still packin’ his pistol, die in these streets or get saved by the system/
Or get you some millions, my lifestyle is vicious, these h*** ain’t gon’ miss you, they f*** on your partner, act like they forgot you, that s*** have you sick…/”
The accompanying visual splits between black-and-white and color footage to show the artists’ lives before and after their current success. Interspersed with scenes of money, jewelry, and other forms of wealth with their crews in a mansion are shot of Lil Baby back on a flip phone handling pre-fame business and Rod Wave recording “Rags2Riches” in a studio.
Recently, Rod Wave joined the likes of Mulatto, Polo G, Jack Harlow, and Fivio Foreign as the latest to become a XXL Freshman, further increasing his star power. It was around that big announcement that he also dropped a loose cut titled “Letter From Houston,” which eventually landed on the aforementioned Pray 4 Love upgrade. His debut studio album, Ghetto Gospel, was released last November.
