If you’re not already familiar, Kano is without a doubt one of the most legendary hip hop artists to come from the UK’s ever-evolving culture, having first making landfall near the turn of the century with “P’s and Q’s” and his debut release Home Sweet Home. More recently, he liberated his sixth studio album Hoodies All Summer last year, which boasted 10 tracks and additional appearances from Ghetts, D Double E, Lil Silva, Popcaan, and Kojo Funds. One particular standout from the project was the Blue May and Jodi Milliner-produced “Teardrops,” which sees Kano rapping about the longstanding battle between the people and the powers that be:

“A village has to raise these young kings and queens to believe their greatness, fed up of police stations, I be paradin’ ‘cause while I be mistaken just ‘cause I be debated/

While these sly pedos raping, big man like you, brogues and a big boy black suit and a gangster platoon, what’s a man supposed to do?/”

Last night, Kano decided to return to his critically-acclaimed effort to create a powerful visual for “Teardrops,” released as a performance clip for GRM Daily’s “Rated Awards.” The clip comes courtesy of Aneil Karia and sees Kano getting into his car, taking a drive while performing the track. Eventually, he is stopped by police, and even while complying as a citizen with rights, finds himself getting pulled from the car in heartbreaking fashion. The video ends with a message about the 100 Black citizens in the UK who have presumably been senselessly murdered by law enforcement since 1990, an echo of the same issues that we’re facing in the United States.
