YNB Cordae has officially dropped the “YBN” from his name after the collective disbanded earlier this month. The Grammy-nominated rapper is now listed as simply “Cordae,” which is his real first name, on streaming platforms like TIDAL and Spotify. He’s also changed his name on Twitter and Instagram.

The group’s founding member YBN Nahmir revealed that the collective had parted ways in a tweet on Aug. 8.

“They left this YBN sh*t in the gutter,” he wrote at the time. “Remember that. I’ll turn it up myself.”

According to his tweet, Nahmir is the only remaining member of the group. He confirmed this when responding to a fan on the platform, “Yea it’s only me kid.”

Nahmir launched YBN, which stands for Young Boss Ni**as, in 2014. The gaming-turned-rap collective released their debut full-length project, YBN: The Mixtape, in 2018, which saw appearances from Chris Brown, Gucci Mane, Wiz Khalifa, Machine Gun Kelly and more.

Neither Cordae nor the group’s other member YBN Almighty Jay have released official statements about why the group disbanded. Almighty Jay still includes his “YBN” affiliation in his name on streaming platforms.

Cordae released his debut solo album The Lost Boy last year. The effort was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2020 Grammys and the cut “Bad Idea” was also nominated for Best Rap Song. The 22-year-old was most recently spotted at a demonstration for Breonna Taylor.

Protesters assembled on the Kentucky Attorney General’s front lawn to demand the arrest of the police officers involved in her death. Cordae was reportedly arrested at the demonstration, along with 86 others.

YBN Nahmir, on the other hand, has appeared on a few one-off singles this year, including “Talkin,” “2 Seater” with G-Eazy and Offset and “I Remember.” Almighty Jay has also dropped off several tracks this year, such as “Red Light,” “Ooouuu” with Black Youngsta, “Face Time” and “U A Snitch.”
