There is now a third bodycam video that has been released from the Memorial Day arrest and killing of George Floyd.
This video footage comes from the bodycam of former officer Tou Thao, the cop who controlled the crowd as the other three officers — Derek Chauvin, Thomas Lane and J. Kueng — restrained Floyd against the concrete.
In the video, you can see bystanders plead with the officers to let Floyd go. One man wearing a sweatshirt yelled at Chauvin to “get off of his … neck, bro.” That same man also asked Thao, while motioning towards Floyd, “You gonna keep him like that?”
The bystander continued to address Thao, asking, “You gonna let him kill that man in front of you, bro? Bro, he’s not even … moving right now, bro.” Thao ordered the crowd to move onto the sidewalk. At one point, he is heard telling them, “This is why you don’t do drugs, kids.”
The crowd begins to become more agitated with how the police are handling Floyd. One man approached Thao with his phone recording and the former officer pushed him back towards the sidewalk. The witnesses pleaded for the officers to check Floyd’s pulse.
Earlier this month, REVOLT reported that the full bodycam footage of his arrest was released to the public from the view of former officer Lane. In this video, Floyd pleaded with officers not to shoot him and cried as he was being placed into the squad car.
In the video, Lane and Kueng approached Floyd while he was in his vehicle waiting for the officers to arrive after being accused of using a counterfeit $20 bill in a local store. Lane went to the driver’s side of the vehicle, where Floyd was, and Kueng went to the passenger’s side window.
Lane knocked on the window with his flashlight, but Floyd did not open the door immediately. Once he did open the door, Lane immediately pulled out his gun and pointed it directly at Floyd’s head. “Hey man, I’m sorry,” Floyd is heard saying on the video. He apologizes again before Lane gets hostile.
Floyd cried as he is pulled from his car and handcuffed. He is then taken over to the police car, but refused to get in. He told the officers that he suffered from claustrophobia. Moments later, he was placed into the cop car, but somehow got out.
Seconds later, Floyd is seen lying on the ground while Chauvin’s knee is pressed onto his neck. He called out for his deceased mom and said, “I can’t breathe,” repeatedly.
“Tell my kids I love them. I’m dead,” Floyd said before he passed out. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Lane, Kueng and Thao are charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder and aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter. Chauvin is charged with second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. Their trials are scheduled for March.
