Bodycam footage has been released of the Memorial Day arrest of George Floyd. Daily Mail obtained the footage which showed one of the former Minneapolis officers pointing his gun at Floyd as he pleaded for him not to shoot.
The footage is from the bodycams of officers Thomas Lane and Alex Kueng. They were the first two officers to respond to the scene after a Cup Foods employee called to report Floyd for allegedly using a fake $20 bill to buy cigarettes.
In the video, Lane and Kueng approached Floyd while he was in his vehicle waiting for the offciers to arrive. Lane went to the driver’s side of the vehicle, where Floyd was, and Kueng went to the passenger’s side window.
Lane knocked on the window with his flashlight, but Floyd did not open the door immediately. Once he did open the door, Lane immediately pulled out his gun and pointed it directly at Floyd’s head. “Hey man, I’m sorry,” Floyd is heard saying on the video. He apologizes again before Lane gets hostile.
“Put your fucking hands up right now! Let me see your other hand,” the officer said. Floyd did not put his hands on the wheel immediately.
“Put you fucking hand up there,” Lane yelled. “Jesus Christ, keep your fucking hands on the wheel.” Floyd told Lane that he had been shot before and he replied, “Keep your fucking hands on the wheel.”
Lane then ordered Floyd to get out of the car. “Hands on top of your head. Step out of the vehicle and step away from me,” he said.
Floyd replied, “Okay. Mr. Officer please don’t shoot me. Please man.”
“I’m not going to shoot you,” Lane replied. “Step out and face away.”
Floyd replied, “I’ll look at you eye-to-eye. Please don’t shoot man. I just lost my mom, man.”
Floyd cried as he is pulled from his car and handcuffed. He is then taken over to the police car, but refused to get in. He told the officers that he suffered from claustrophobia. He then fell to the ground. Lane offered to roll the windows down to give Floyd some type of comfort with his phobia, but it did not work. Bystanders can be heard on video trying to get Floyd to calm down.
At this point, officers Derek Chauvin and Tou Thao arrived to the scene. They got him into the patrol car, but somehow he got out of the vehicle. Seconds later, Floyd is seen lying on the ground while Chauvin’s knee is pressed onto his neck. He called out for his mom and said, “I can’t breathe,” repeatedly.
“Tell my kids I love them. I’m dead,” Floyd said as he was restrained on the ground.
Kueng is seen on video taking a pebble out of the cop car tire with one hand and restraining Floyd’s legs with the other hand. The officers told Floyd that he was “fine” and that it takes “a lot of oxygen to talk.” Lane asked, “Should we roll him on his side?” Chauvin replied, “No, he’s staying where we’ve got him.”
By the time the ambulance arrived, Floyd was reportedly dead. Watch the disturbing bodycam footage below.
