Drake is dropping something new very soon. On Wednesday (Aug. 12), the Toronto-bred rap star took to Instagram to share a a short clip of himself and another person riding jet skis at night. Although it’s unclear exactly what Drake is preparing to release, the post’s caption about when it would arrive is very straightforward.
“TMRW MIDNIGHT,” he wrote, sending fans into a flurry.
Ahead of the offering’s Thursday night release (Aug. 13), fans took to Twitter to debate whether the new drop will be single or Drake’s long-awaited album. The OVO boss began teasing his sixth studio LP earlier this year.
“Definitely, this is the most excited I’ve been about an album in a long time,” he told Diddy about the project during an Instagram Live chat. “A lot of little stuff has been trickling out, but all the stuff on the album is fresh, it’s brand new and I’m excited. This is probably the most music I’ve ever been sitting on. I’m hyped.”
As for the album’s length, Drake has previously revealed that it’ll be “more of a realistic offering” than his double-sided Scorpion.
“Last album, I went high volume. I did two sides. It was like 20-something songs, which is a lot of songs,” he told a TSN sports commentator at a Toronto Raptors game in February. “This album… [will be] something more concise. It could be 10, 11 songs, [or] 16.”
Upon releasing Dark Lane Demo Tapes, Drake announced that he’d be dropping his next album this summer, so it’s definitely possible the album could arrive this month. In early July, he hinted that the record was about 80 percent complete. A few weeks later, his producer Noel offered another update, writing that the album was 90 percent finished on Instagram.
“…But y’all gonna have to wait on that last 10%,” he teased.
