In these dog days of summer, this highly anticipated Verzuz battle went down as one for the history books with none other than two charismatic thoroughbred emcees who led a national gangsta rap movement from the east coast to west coast: DMX and Snoop Dogg. This era can easily be considered the golden age of hip hop.
As the Verzuz viewers took witness to another battle that was a few minutes behind, but worth the suspense, there was a slight delay before the live face off began with drinks served by Ciroc. Nevertheless, it was worth the wait. Check out the highlights below!
1. Welcome To The Gangster Party
As both veterans moved the crowd throughout the night, a group of celebrities gathered to spectate and show their appreciation from Charlamagne tha God, DeSean Jackson, Wayno, Timbaland, Swizz Beatz, Diddy, LaLa, Keyshia Cole, LaMelo Ball, Fabolous, Jadakiss and more, as Snoop and DMX requested the crowd send flame emojis if they were vibing.
2. One Of Verzuz’s Highest-Viewed Battles
The room was filled with fans, colleagues, family and friends. The party got so thick that the live reached the capacity of 1.9 million followers at its peak. That shows how you can never comprise longevity for a quick career.
3. The Intermission
You can never underestimate a dog in a fight. Both Snoop and DMX put on a high intensity performance for the Verzuz viewers that caused a need for an intermission before the second half of the battle.
4. Welcome To The Beach: Uncle Snoop’s C-Walk
Snoop takes it back to the 213, as he waits for DMX to finish his break, and gives the viewers a trip to the L-B-C with his legendary C-walk that is always a crowd pleaser.
5. What They Want From Us
This was a time everyone could come together for both rappers, as they shared their experiences dealing with the gift and curse of a dog’s loyalty. DMX dropped a banger with the classic “What These B**ches Want” featuring Sisqo. As the Snoop D O Double G assisted as the hype man, showing true sportsmanship, he then recaps his trip to Brazil with producer and songwriter Pharrell Williams with their intentional anthem “Beautiful.” Before dropping their records, they gave respect and shout outs to their wives who have been muses in their careers.
6. Raw Lyrics And True Stories
Winding down the battle, the Dark Man X dropped one of his rawest singles in his catalog “Slippin’,” showing more lyricism in the battle between the two. Snoop held an ace card with one of his earlier records that helped him with his breakthrough as the megastar with “Murder was the Case.”
7. Doggy Dogg World
Bringing a night full of hits, both rappers reflected on the different positions they have played in the culture, as well as influenced each other’s lives. Snoop acknowledged DMX for studying the game and unifying both coasts’ sound in his single “It’s All Good.” As X dropped his jewels of the streets, you can see the two are more similar than you think.
8. Grand Champs
You have to give respect where respect is due when two legends rise through similar circumstances. We as children of the Golden Era of hip hop appreciate the work both DMX and Snoop have put in as leaders for over 20 years strong.
9. Drinks by Ciroc
And of course, we couldn’t have a Verzuz battle without the premier drink of the event. Ciroc was given to Snoop and X throughout the night and that just made the battle even more entertaining when they started feeling it!
