At the start of the month, Ty Dolla $ign unveils his big single “Ego Death,” a collaboration with fellow heavyweights Kanye West, FKA Twigs, Skrillex, and serpentwithfeet. First heard by concertgoers and Coachella attendees last year, the track mixes between having to change for the benefit of your love ones and the socially-charged subject matter heard in a lot of new music as of late:
“Murdered my ego when you walked away, it hurt my ego when you walked away/
Gave you my all, that wouldn’t make you stay, murdered my ego when you walked away/
You had this look on your face, so much animosity, ego death is where you find happiness/
That’s the only place you find happiness, way too many drugs, they so bad for us, one too many drinks and you had enough…/”
Now, fans get to check out an animated lyric visual for the track which matches the artists’ lyrics, from a women slitting Ty$’ throat to kill his ego, to ‘Ye’s message to the higher powers that be coming to life. Via press release, the California artist-producer explained how the collab came together:
“‘Ego Death’ is a very special record. It’s always an honor working with my brother ’Ye. He’s a genius and we make incredible records every single time we link up. Skrillex and twigs came in and blessed us with the magic that only they can put on the record. I played it once at a house party and everyone went crazy. A clip leaked online and s*** but that’s all good.”
Press play on “Ego Death” below, which follows a slew of previously released singles, including the Juicy J and Project Pat-assisted “Hottest In The City,” as well as “Purple Emoji” with J. Cole. All are expected to appear on Ty Dolla $ign’s forthcoming album Dream House.
