Following the viral video that captured activist Miracle Boyd getting her teeth knocked out by an officer, the 18-year-old is speaking out on the tragic incident.

“So, basically, a caucasian male was [getting] arrested and I was recording the police,” she said during a press conference. “The police officer came up to me and he smacked my phone out my hand and it hit me in the mouth. My [teeth] got knocked out. I feel like it shouldn’t have happened.”

She continued, “[The cop] wanted me to put my phone away, I wasn’t going to put it away…. You can’t deny me my rights.” Boyd shared that she will be hosting her own press conference on Monday (July 20).

As REVOLT previously reported, things took a turn for the worst during a protest at Christopher Columbus statue in Grant Park on Friday evening (July 17). Many witnessed the assault that Boyd endured, including Jeanette Taylor, who also spoke about the situation shortly after.

“I’m going to tell you right now, if this was my kid — and Miracle is one of mine — I would burn this city to the ground,” Taylor said of Boyd, who is also good friends with her daughter. “You beat people up over a statue? You rough them up over a statue?”

She concluded, “They’re so busy protecting white supremacy, they’re so busy protecting a Christopher Columbus statue that they beat her.”

Amika Tendaji, who organized the protest, explained that the people of Chicago are tired of police brutality in America. “I think the people of Chicago and the world have proven that they are over police brutalizing people,” she said. “They’re over police murder, they’re over police terrorism, so the people are going to keep fighting.”
