Original story: Naya Rivera’s body has reportedly been found in Lake Piru, according TMZ. Officials revealed that a body had been recovered in the lake, where they believe the missing actress drowned last week, on Monday (July 13).
“A body has been found at Lake Piru this morning,” the Ventura County Sheriff’s department tweeted on Monday (July 13). “The recovery is in progress. A news conference will take place at 2 pm at the lake.”
Authorities in Ventura County, CA have been searching for Rivera since July 8, when her 4-year-old son Josey Hollis Dorsey was found sleeping by himself in a boat. The mother and son had reportedly rented out a boat on the river that day and went for a swim, but Rivera never returned.
According to the department’s Twitter, the nearly week-long search for the 33-year-old has included checking the area’s surrounding cabins and buildings, boat scans of the shoreline and lake and citizen-led search and rescue teams.
The search for Rivera began immediately on Wednesday (July 8) after boaters discovered her young son asleep in the boat. The “Glee” actress had rented the boat around 1 p.m. PST and her son was found in the boat alone about three hours later. The boaters notified officials after finding the child, who was unharmed.
News of Rivera’s disappearance quickly flooded across social media and many of her friends and former co-stars lent their prayers and wished for her safe return.
“Prayers up for the lovely Naya Rivera,” fellow actress Jackée Harry tweeted last week. “We starred alongside one another in her first very television series, ‘The Royal Family,’ and I’ve watched her career blossom ever since. Please God, don’t cut this life short.”
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department is expected to hold a press conference about the body recovery at 2 p.m. PST. See their tweet below.
