Last money, Westside Gunn delivered what is sure to be one of 2020’s best albums with Pray For Paris, a 13-track tour de force that saw a slew of featured appearances from Tyler, The Creator, Freddie Gibbs, Wale, Westside’s Griselda compadres Conway The Machine and Benny The Butcher, and more. Speaking to REVOLT, the Buffalo emcee described the project as “art” worthy of the same praises as your favorite painting:
“That’s why I say my projects are all paintings and art. If you get it, you get it. If you don’t, you don’t. When I say, ‘Staring out of millionaires, neck costs a fortune,’ that’s just me staring out the Louis Vuitton all-red [Millionaires] shades. My neck worth half a million, sitting there smoking good, and looking fly. People don’t know that’s name of the Louis Vuitton glasses that I had.”
To keep the momentum going, Westside delivers a new music video for the two album cuts “Euro Step” and “No Vacancy.” Filmed in Atlanta, the dual clip shows Westside Gunn and his entourage outside masked and bandana’d up, presumably in the midst of the crippling Coronavirus epidemic. It’s somewhat of a surprise, given Gunn’s fairly recent battle with COVID-19 — as he explained during an interview with Hot 97:
“It was wild for me, bro, I’m not gonna hold you, I thought I was gonna die, honestly… it was one experience, man. I smoked, I thought I was better. Just in the house bored… Benny came over, we was kickin’ it. He had a couple blunts, you know, I get somebody to pre-roll mine, so I already had a lot of ‘em rolled up… I hit a blunt, ‘cause I thought I was good. I had a little piece left, so next morning I woke up and hit it… and the next thing you know, I couldn’t move.”
