After dropping his surprise mixtape on Friday (May 1), Drake has already begun thinking about new music.
On the most recent episode of Lil Wayne’s podcast, Drizzy promised to get back in the studio with his mentor. During their conversation, the “Lollipop” rhymer explained why he hasn’t collaborated with Drake in a while. In the past, the two worked on several hits together including “Miss Me,” “Y.O.L.O.,” “Forever,” “Money to Blow” and much more.
“Now, something about me and Drizzy’s songs that we do together, we are both perfectionists,” Wayne confessed. “So, it’s not like you send me a joint, I’m going to throw a verse on there. We got a standard we got to live up to, we got a track record and a legacy we gotta always protect. And then on top of that, it’s like we have this thing where it’s like, well, if I’ma send you a joint and I’m going to go first, first of all – I already know, it’s like, all right, I know this man’s about to go crazy on me.”
Following Weezy’s explanation, Drake shared that he was going straight to the studio to cook up new music. “Well look, on that note, you have my word as a man and Mack [Maine], you can hold me to this when we get off the phone, I’m going to be in the studio,” Drake said. “What’s today? Friday? I’m going to be in the studio all weekend. By midweek or maybe Monday night, you will have at least two joints.”
Speaking of new music, Drake revealed to fans that his sixth studio album will be dropping this summer. The upcoming LP will serve as the follow-up to Scorpion, which was released in June of 2018. “My brothers @oliverelkhatib @ovonoel put together a lot of the songs people have been asking for (some leaks and some joints from SoundCloud and some new vibes) DARK LANE DEMO TAPES out everywhere at midnight…also my 6th STUDIO ALBUM DROPPING SUMMER 2020!!!
