Last May, Ari Lennox solidified her position as one of the best new artists out with her debut album Shea Butter Baby, which saw 12 tracks and featured assistance from her fellow Dreamville cronies J. Cole and JID. Boasting singles like “Whipped Cream,” “Up Late,” and the title track. Shea Butter Baby added a fresh take on soul and R&B with sultry landscapes and straight-to-the-point subject matter, all from a voice that’s one of the most unique in music, period.
Over the weekend, Ari upgraded her debut with three remixes for “BMO,” “I Been,” and “Facetime,” featuring assistance from Doja Cat, Smino, and Durand Bernarr, respectively. On the new version of “BMO,” Doja makes sure to heat things up with some sexy bars of her own:
“Break me off, actin’ like a Kit Kat, taste it all, like it when you turn your ringer off/
And turn me on and take it off, why you gotta give me faces for?/
Eat it like you took your braces off, have you on your knees beggin’ me/
It won’t take me long…/”
Back in 2016, the D.C. singer delivered her first Dreamville body of work Pho, an EP that contain seven tracks and a single appearance from Cozz. More recently, she’s also been able to contribute to the second and third installments of the label’s Revenge Of The Dreamers compilation series — the third of which earned her and her collective a number one spot on the Billboard 200.
More recently, she’s been making headline both in music and in her personal life. She’s made a couple of assists for her peers — she was a feature on K Camp’s latest single “Black Men Don’t Cheat” alongside 6LACK and Tink. She also made a cameo appearance in JoJo’s new visual “Man” with Tinashe, Francia Raisa and more. Finally, actor Lakeith Stansfield jumped in one of her IG live streams and asked her out on a date, with hilarious results.
