Eminem has opened up about his Oscars performance revealing that the moment was almost ruined due to a technical malfunction.
During an appearance on the “Hotboxin’ With Mike Tyson” podcast, the Detroit rapper spoke of the February performance and said, “When I went out there everything was cool. I go through the first verse and they had the mic pack that you wear to clip on your belt and your in-ears so you can hear the sound. And I’m rapping and all of a sudden I see between my legs the motherf—king pack’s swinging.”
“That was the one thing we didn’t plan for and of course it went wrong,” he added.
Em said that he spent the remainder of the performance trying to make sure the mic pack was secure. He then admitted that he has not been able to watch the performance. “I ain’t watched it. I got creeped out, I don’t want to see this sh-t, I’ll just get angry,” he said.
Prior to the podcast episode airing, a preview was released which showed Eminem praising Tyson’s champion boxing career.
Em said in the clip, “I just gotta say like I bro you, you are like, a god to me. Bro, you’ve done so much in your life it’s like just so crazy to be the Heavy Weight Champion at 20 years old…it takes a lot to be the champ.”
Eminem performed his 2002 hit “Lose Yourself” during his surprise performance at the 92nd annual Academy Awards. The performance ended with a standing ovation. The rapper later thanked The Academy on Twitter for allowing him to perform years later.
“Look, if you had another shot, another opportunity,” he wrote on (Feb. 9). “Thanks for having me [The Academy]. Sorry it took me 18 years to get here.”
That same record won Em an Oscar award for Best Original Song in 2002.
