Hey, what’s up? It’s Legendary Lade and I’m back with another column this week. Today, let’s get into a fan favorite by Pyer Moss.
“We gotta leave this ground you’re walking on a little better for the kids!” reads the hidden message atop the tongue of the latest and possibly last Experiment 4 — depending on who you ask — by Reebok’s Global Creative Director Kerby-Jean Raymond and Evan Belforti. Always one to make an intentional statement, this colorway dubbed “Emergency” is subdued in its color palette but packs quite the punch in its design. Built on the Insta Pump Fury midsole mold that Reebok is known for, it features a knit upper, mesh inserts, rubber-like leather mudguard, midsole, and heel all in muted grays while the tongue and hidden lacing system are in bright orange.
Also interesting about the Experiment series is the attention paid to detail. I previously touched on the hidden message atop the tongue, but the right yellow insole also features a special note. To summarize, it speaks of teamwork and the idea that the work is never really finished. It also gives a backstory on the time of conception and is dedicated to Kerby’s nieces, nephews and godchildren. The box itself is also an experiment, standing upright vertically with the top coming off as opposed to what we’re used to with most sneaker boxes. Every time I put my feet into these sneakers, I’m reminded that I’m walking on inspiration manifested. A pep in my step that the Insta Pump technology could not provide solely. I walk with the pride of knowing that if Kerby could and does, I can too.
What better ideology to walk on than that?!
The Reebok by Pyer Moss Experiment 4 “Emergency” released on Oct. 23 retailing at $250 exclusively on pyermoss.com.
