After about a year and a half in prison, Harlem’s own Juelz Santana was released on Wednesday (Aug. 5) and fans of his are overjoyed.
The rapper made the announcement on his social media. While wearing a black bandana and a cap that had the words “Santana Free” on it, he posted a selfie on Instagram with the caption, “Free at last #ImBack #SantanaFree.”
Santana was actually supposed to be released last week. However, there were some issues that went down, so his freedom was delayed — until now. Earlier today, the artist’s wife, Kimbella, posted a video on IG where she admitted, “Juelz was supposed to get released last Tuesday but some s**t happened.” The “Love And Hip Hop: New York” star continued, “But we’re outside of the prison now and he’s gonna be released any minute. And I’ll leave it all up to him when he gets out. Stay tuned!”
And she was a hundred percent right. Not too long afterward, her husband was free and heading home to his family. Though his release was put on hold for a few days, Santana’s liberation was still earlier than previously expected. He was actually scheduled to be released in Feb. 2021. However, Kimbella and his legal team were fighting for the last few months for an earlier date for him due to the Coronavirus pandemic and prisoners’ wellbeing with the sickness continuing to run rampant behind bars. Thankfully, their mission was accomplished.
As many fans may previously recall, Santana was arrested at the end of 2018 and sentenced to 27 months in prison after he fled Newark airport before being arrested for carrying an unconcealed weapon in his carry-on luggage, as he attempted to board a flight. Authorities later caught him because he left his bag, wallet, and I.D. behind.
Welcome home, Juelz!
