For this year's 2019 MTV Video Music Awards, Missy Elliott will receive the Video Vanguard Award.

While on Twitter today (Aug. 12), Missy stated that she is humbled by the exciting news. "I am Humbly Grateful to be receiving the MichaelJacksonVideoVanguard Award," she wrote. "I Thank my FANS 'Supafriends' who fought diligently to see this day come @KidFury @crissles who rooted for years 4 me I am crying happy tears. Thank you God @MTV @vmas am SO HUMBLED."

MTV's International co-brand head and Viacom music talent head, Bruce Gillmer, believes that Elliott is very deserving of this achievement. "Missy's impact on the music landscape is indelible," said Gillmer, according to Variety. "Her creative vision across production, performance and songwriting is unmatched."

The five-time Grammy Award winner will perform at the VMAs for the first time in 16 years. In the past, notable artists have received the Video Vanguard Award including Kanye West, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez and Beyoncé, to name a few.

To say that 2019 has been a great one for Elliott would be an understatement. Back in June, the 48-year-old artist was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and became the first female hip-hop artist to ever do so. At the annual event, Barack Obama shared kind words about Elliott in a prerecorded video.

"Missy, I want to thank you for all of your trailblazing ways," Obama said. "Thank you not for just sharing your gift with the world, but for being an advocate for so many people out there, especially young girls who are still figuring out how to make their voices heard."

Congrats, Missy Elliott! Check out her tweet announcing that she will be receiving the award below. Also, be sure to check out MTV's 36th annual show, which will take place at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. on Aug. 26.
