Congrats are in order for Tessa Thompson. Over the weekend, it was confirmed that Thompson will play the first LGBTQ superhero in Marvel's upcoming film, Thor: Love and Thunder.

According to the HuffPost, the 35-year-old actress will take on the role of Valkyrie. During the unveiling of Marvel's Phase Four lineup at Comic-Con, Thompson revealed hints regarding her role. "First of all, as new King [of Asgard], she needs to find her queen, so that will be her first order of business," she said. "She has some ideas. Keep you posted."

Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige confirmed that Valkyrie will be the first openly gay character. "The answer is yes," Feige said when asked about an LGBTQ storyline. "How that impacts the story remains to be seen with that level of representation you'll see across our films, not in just Thor 4."

In the past, Thompson addressed her character being bisexual in the Marvel films. However, bisexuality hasn't been openly addressed in the movies so far. In the film, Thor: Ragnarok, a scene with Valkyrie's female lover was cut.

"She's bi. And yes, she cares very little about what men think of her. What a joy to play!" Thompson wrote on Twitter when asked about Valkyrie's sexuality.

Understandably, the Creed actress enjoys making movies because it allows females to be portrayed in a positive and relatable light.

"As a young woman, you're so used to going into movies where the hero is a male protagonist and you relate to it because that's what the movie wants you to do," she said while speaking on her role in Men in Black: International. "I love the idea of young boys relating to this character, even though she's a woman. I think there's an opportunity to come close to what you consider the other in cinema. That's why I make films."

Thor: Love and Thunder is set to hit the big screen on Nov. 5, 2021.
