Following Meek Mill's release from prison last year, it was announced that a new documentary series was in the works to further illustrate the magnitude of the injustices woven into both his case and highlight how others are also unjustly caught up in the probation system, especially in Philadelphia.

During Sunday night's airing of the BET Awards (June 23), Amazon debuted the first official trailer for the upcoming docuseries, aptly titled "Free Meek."

The five-part series is set to air on Amazon Prime on Aug. 9 and boasts JAY-Z as an executive producer. The series will showcase an inside look at the Championships rapper's specific battle against the legal system, as well as will showcase a larger look at the dire need for criminal justice reform.

"[Free Meek] explores my life and the flaws in the criminal justice system that have haunted me and others like me," Meek said of the doc.

The series documents Meek's incarceration in 2017 when he was initially sentenced to two to four years in prison for violating the terms of his probation, which he was placed on stemming from a 2008 gun and drug case when he was 19. The ruling was made by Common Pleas Court Judge Genece E. Brinkley and was met with backlash across the nation, sparking Meek's own personal fight and larger mission to spearhead his own endeavors in reform activism.

According to Deadline, the investigation series will also feature new information uncovered by Quest Research & Investigations LLC (QRI) and will feature interviews from a variety of people close to the case, including JAY-Z.

Most recently, Meek was presented with a social justice award from New York University. He received the Vanguard for Social Justice award at the seventh annual McSilver Awards and gave a speech to commemorate being honored by the esteemed university.

Meek has also received his own day and state key in Connecticut, his own three-day holiday weekend in Philly and his own day in Houston thanks to his dedication to his advocacy efforts.
