Karl Lagerfeld has died. The iconic designer passed away at a Parisian hospital on Tuesday (Feb. 19), TMZ reports. He was admitted to the hospital on Monday night. An official cause of death has yet to be released.

According to BBC News, Lagerfeld was "unwell" for several weeks. The 85-year-old reportedly missed out on two Chanel fashion shows last month. The absence was unusual for the German designer. He reportedly appeared on the runway at the end of every Chanel show since joining the house three decades ago.

Over the years, Lagerfeld became a household name for his creative designs at Fendi and later at Chanel. His labels were frequently worn by model and celebrities alike. Hip hop artists, in particular, donned Lagerfeld's Chanel and Fendi designs, including Lil Kim, Nicki Minaj, Pharrell, Drake, Cardi B, Meek Mill, and Wale, to name a few.

In April 2017, Pharrell became the first man to star in a Chanel bag campaign. At the time, Lagerfeld told WWD the bag could be worn in "many different circumstances," adding, "it's not very feminine in the sense of being chichi."

Pharrell was interviewed at the Chanel Ready-to-Wear Fall 2017 show and expressed his excitement to work with the designer. "When I first started wearing [the bag] I didn't have anything in it," he revealed. "I was just so excited to have it. But now I use it to carry my phone, and — you know — essential personal things. I wore it yesterday. But, you know, I'm shy about it, but I'm grateful."

Following the news of Lagerfeld's passing, Pharrell shared a photo of himself with the legendary designer on Twitter. "The goat sleeps," he wrote.

Donatella Versace also paid tribute to Lagerfeld in a heartfelt Instagram post. "Karl your genius touched the lives of so many, especially Gianni and I," the Italian fashion designer shared. "We will never forget your incredible talent and endless inspiration."
