From being instrumental in helping popularize the NBA in the 1980s and 1990s across the world to being heralded as one of the greatest athletes of all time, Michael Jordan's legacy is as magnificent and multifaceted as it is inspiring and influential. Soon, his story will be told in an in-depth and long deserved manner.
This week, ESPN announced that its forthcoming docuseries centering on Jordan's life, career and cultural impact, The Last Dance, is set to debut in 2020.
To celebrate the new development in the 10-part documentary and help tide fans over until its scheduled release, the sports network has shared an official 60-second trailer promoting the film. The docuseries was initially scheduled to be premiered in 2019 but judging from the looks of the trailer, it will be well worth the extended wait.
"'The Last Dance,' a 10-part documentary series will chronicle Michael Jordan and the 1990s Chicago Bulls, one of the greatest icons and most successful dynasties in sports history, will debut on ESPN in 2020," ESPN shared, revealing the trailer on Twitter.
As reported, the series will include content edited down from more than 500 hours of never-before-seen footage of the Bulls' legendary 1997-1998 season, as well as will include exclusive interviews. As exemplified by the trailer, key figures from that time period have all agreed to participate, including Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman and Steve Kerr, among others. Adding to the authenticity of the docuseries, Jordan himself was also interviewed.
"We were the greatest team ever," Pippen can be heard saying in the trailer. "It was [Jordan's] team."
The docuseries, which is directed by Jason Hehir (The Fab Five and The '85 Bears) and produced by Mike Tollin, is set to premiere on Netflix at a yet-to-be-disclosed date in 2020. Given the platform of Netflix, there is a good possibility all ten installments will drop at once.
