Soulja Boy launches line of game consoles

 // Dec 7, 2018

Earlier this week, Soulja Boy debuted his SouljaWatch to the masses. The design is aesthetically similar to an Apple Watch, allowing people to utilize various digital functions, such as texting, taking photos and making phone calls all from their wrists. The watch, which he first teased a prototype for years ago, is one of several new items the Chicago native is now selling. Now, the rapper is also debuting his own line of gaming consoles.

Keeping in line with the rapper's distinctive branding, the line of game consoles is aptly named "SouljaGame." Unfortunately, the products are not being as well received as the rapper-turned-entrepreneur may have been anticipating. Critics are pointing out that the products are merely bootleg, third-party emulators that have been repackaged utilizing his namesake.

The SouljaGame console and various handheld accessories were added to the digital SouljaWatch store on Wednesday (Dec. 5). While the details are a bit up for interpretation, the console reportedly comes with the ability to play 800 built-in games, while the handheld device boasts having 3,000 built-in games. As for the type of games available for the handheld, the website product description reads, "For Switch/3DS/Vita/NEOGEO/GBC/Gameboy/GBA Handheld Game Players."

As pointed out by several gaming sites including Games Radar, the models are developed by Anbernic, a company that sells its products through oversees-based retailer AliExpress. Unbranded versions of Soulja Boy's products are currently available for sale on the Chinese retailer's website and for much cheaper at that. The price on SouljaWatch.com for each of the consoles is $199.99 when they can be bought on AliExpress for much cheaper prices, such as $105.99 or $72.99 (for the handheld), comparatively.

While fans are vocalizing their less-than-impressed reactions to the possibly bootlegged merchandise, Soulja Boy is keeping it positive.

"To the first person that purchased my console you just brought tears to my eyes," he shared on Twitter. "Tears of joy! Thank you so much for your support I promise to continue my tech company and evolve it in the gaming world. I'm just a kid with a dream."

Later on, he added, "Wow made $250,000 from my game console it's only been less than 24hours since release wtf thank you guys so much."
