Major announcement, folks! Famed media/entertainment mogul and chairman of REVOLT Media & TV Sean "Diddy" Combs is pledging $1 million to Capital Preparatory Schools. The schooling network will also be opening a third location in Bronx, New York. There is already one school that's open in Bridgeport, Connecticut and another in Harlem, New York.

In 2016, Combs opened Capital Prep Harlem, a charter school that aims to "provide historically disadvantaged children with college and career readiness skills needed to become responsible and engaged citizens for social justice," per the school's website. Born and raised in Harlem, Combs held a mission of one day opening up a school in the place that made him close to his heart for years. When it finally did happen, he was more than elated. "Instead of me complaining about education," Combs said at the time of that opening, "I want to do something about it. So, that's why I'm starting this school." Now, the executive is taking his mission of improving the educational system for at-risk, inner-city children another major step further with this new pledge.

As for the new school, Capital Prep Bronx will open to initially serve 160 students in 6th to 7th grade, reads a press release. Within the first five years of its opening, the plan is for the school to serve 650 students in 6th-11th grade. Longterm plans are for more campuses to open and serve thousands of more kids. The new Bronx school will be opening its doors in September 2019. But, parents can begin applying for their children's admission in November 2018.

The founder of Capital Prep Schools, Dr. Steve Perry, issued a statement about Combs' donation. "Mr. Combs' commitment and leadership continue to inspire us. On behalf of the Capital Prep students, parents and teachers I want express our sincerest gratitude for such a generous gift," Dr. Perry said. "We know that the families in the Bronx deserve a high-quality academic alternative to their current system. In fact, 40% of our applicants to our Capital Prep Harlem school, 600 kids, have come from the Bronx, so there is a real need to serve students in this area. Mr. Combs wanted to open schools to develop leaders. What he's done with his investment is embody what we expect students to do, which is to invest their resources in our communities."

Combs also spoke about his pledge. "I know from my own experience that receiving a great education makes a huge impact on a child's future. I want these kids to have access to everything they need to succeed, in school and life," he said. "We don't just teach kids to read and write, we teach them to be leaders and what it takes to make a difference in their community, and on the world."

The press release added about the schooling network: "In 2017, Capital Prep Harbor, in Bridgeport, CT had the highest percent of students to meet the state's growth goal. This garnered the school the designation as a 'School of Distinction' by that state's Department of Education. Similar growth occurred in Capital Prep Harlem. In 2016, the school's first year, only 1% of the students were at grade-level in math. Within two years that number grew to 27%. Capital Prep Schools focuses on the neediest students, at the most challenging grades and provides them with access to the love and academic rigor that yield impressive results."

The release closed: "This unique approach to educating the whole child has delivered incredible results, sending 100% of its low-income, minority, first- generation high school graduates to four-year colleges every year since its first class graduated at in 2006. In addition, 86% of these students remained in college through graduation."
