In "about damn time" news, the life of renowned designer and "Godfather of Hip Hop Fashion," Dapper Dan will finally be adapted into a film, thanks to Sony and Jerrod Carmichael.

According to a press release, the untitled biopic will be based on the coming of age story of the famous designer, real name Daniel Day, whose threads revolutionized the fashion industry and ideated the hip-hop aesthetic. Jerrod Carmichael, best known for writing and executive producing NBC's "The Carmichael Show," is attached to write and produce with Sony developing the project. Dapper Dan and his son and brand manager, Jelani Day, will executive produce the film.

From 1982 to 1992, the 24 hours-operating Dapper Dan's Boutique, remained a go-to marketplace for style, flash, and street-tinged flamboyance. His "made to order" luxury-brand fits were donned by the lionized hustlers to the iconic superstars, from Eric B & Rakim to Puff Daddy, LL Cool J, Mike Tyson and many more. That list extends through 2018, as Dan recently re-opened his famed shop, creating works-of-style for DJ Khaled, Salma Hayek, Conan O' Brien, and beyond.

In addition to the upcoming film, Dapper Dan is also prepping an upcoming memoir, which is expected to precede the biopic. The memoir is scheduled to be published in 2019 by Random House.
