With the 60th annual Grammy Awards poised to take over New York City this Sunday (Jan. 28), it's only fitting that the city will first be honoring one of its own.

As reported, Nas is set to receive the Spotlight Award, with the mayor's office of New York to present the prestigious honor during a special presentation this Saturday (Jan. 27). The ceremony will take place at the Lucian Grainge's artist showcase, which is set to be hosted by Universal Music Group.

"I'm really honored by this award," Nas shared in a press release. "Anyone who knows me, knows what New York City means to me and this is special because of that connection. I want to send a special thank you to the Mayor's office, Lucian and Michele."

One of UMG's executives, Michele Anthony, also spoke on the award, explaining how Nas more than deserves the honor, which speaks to giving back to the community and dedicating one's self to one's respective art.

"Nas personifies New York," Anthony said. "A storyteller of urban life straight out of Queensbridge, his recordings and songwriting are storied, Grammy-nominated and platinum-selling. But even that doesn't encapsulate who he is: a rapper; producer; poet; philanthropist; and entrepreneur. On behalf of all of us at UMG, congratulations to Nas on his well-deserved recognition as a recipient of the New York Spotlight Award."

The 60th annual Grammy Awards are slated to begin at 7:30 pm EST and will air live on CBS.
