Tiffany Haddish made television history last night (Nov. 11) as the first Black female comic to ever host Saturday Night Live in its four-plus decades. While a handful of Black women have hosted the long-running program in the past, such as Cicely Tyson, Oprah Winfrey, Queen Latifah, Taraji P. Henson, and Kerry Washington, none of them are considered strictly comedians, making Haddish the first to assume the role.
Earlier this summer, her role in Girls Trip solidified her as an undeniable breakout star), with Haddish enjoying the fruits of her labor ever since.
While hosting SNL, hilariously sporting the same dress she wore on the Girls Trip red carpet, the comedian tackled many timely topics, ranging from sexual misconduct in Hollywood to Donald Trump's hair to the new Lion King and more.
During her opening monologue, Haddish took a nostalgic, sentimental route, explaining how SNL was an integral part of her youth, which she spent in the foster care system. She also addressed SNL's whiteness, pointing out she used to have to fight for control of the TV as other children of color preferred In Living Color and Damon Wayans over SNL.
Elsewhere throughout the evening's sketches, Haddish absolutely nails her impressions of Mary J. Blige and Cardi B, taking on the roles of each for a fake screen test of Disney's Lion King remake.
Additionally Taylor Swift was the musical guest, performing two tracks from her new reputation album.
Overall, Haddish shined throughout the episode, with many taking to Twitter to applaud the comedian for a successful evening hosting the show.
