In April 2016, Nicki Minaj's brother Jelani Maraj was indicted on child rape charges and faced 15 years to life if found guilty. Nearly a year later it was reported that he would stand trial for the case, and now news has surfaced that Nicki plans to take the witness stand in defense of her brother.
According to Pitchfork, Maraj's lawyer confirmed the news. The lawyer also intends to make the argument that the alleged victim and her mother attempted to extort Nicki for $25 million "to make the charges go away."
Maraj plead not guilty following his indictment. He was arrested in late 2015 after the 12-year-old alleged victim claimed she'd been raped by him multiple times for numerous months. Maraj's charges included felony predatory sexual assault against a child, felony sexual conduct against a child under age 13, sexual conduct against a child, and endangering the welfare of a child.
