President Obama congratulates Rihanna at third annual Diamond Ball

 // Sep 15, 2017

Last night (September 14) in New York City, Rihanna held her third annual Diamond Ball, the signature fundraising event for her Clara Lionel Foundation which aims to improve the quality of health, education, arts, and culture for families and students.

Leading into the event, she gave fans the opportunity to attend the gala for just $1 and also announced a special edition of her Puma Creepers that would benefit the foundation, as well.

Hosted by Dave Chappelle, and featuring performances from Kendrick Lamar and Calvin Harris, several other celebrities were in attendance including Beyonce, JAY-Z, Cardi B, and La La.

President Obama, however, couldn't make it in person, but delivered a congratulatory message to Rihanna upon the event raising $840,000. He said:

"Thank you Rihanna for your active philanthropy, and thanks to all of you for your support."
