The upcoming Tupac Shakur biopic "All Eyez On Me" was originally scheduled to come out late last year.

Then director Benny Boom and fellow movie execs eyed an early 2017 release.

But after seeing the calendar of films already locked in from other companies, everyone collectively decided to push it back again. However, as Boom tells REVOLT, the delays ultimately made for a now-perfect time for the big screen drama to hit theaters.

"We wanted to initially put the movie out around Martin Luther King Day, but we felt like it was a crowded time. There were some other Black films coming out. We didn't want to do that. Then the studio suggested June. We were like, 'June? That's too late.'"

But after the film company suggested the date of June 16, Benny and his people realized that was the most fitting day for the film's launch.

"We were like, 'Wait, wait, wait. June 16? That's 'Pac's birthday.' All these things started to fall into place that were, again, out of our control, but somehow formed. And that happened all the way through the filming of the movie, from the casting to everything. All kinds of things happened to make this film happen and get it off the ground. I just want everybody to embrace it."

With the recent overwhelming success of screen adaptations of the life stories of transcending Black icons like N.W.A. and New Edition, Boom knows that his film about arguably the most cherished MC ever will be highly anticipated and scrutinized. The director isn't worried. He believes his take on Tupac is authentic.

"We put a lot of work into it," Boom said. "It is a labor of love and and it properly represents all facets of Tupac. We wanted to show the man, not just the musician. We wanted to show all parts of him. So that's what the film is. That's what the film represents."

"All Eyez On Me" hits theaters June 16.
