As far as pre-summer 16 soundtrack goes, French Montana and Kodak Black have a top contender with "Lockjaw."

Originally situated on Wave Gods, French’s recent mixtape, the record has since broken away from the project and has since taken on a life of its own — echoing out of everything from the airwaves, car speakers, and, by chance, your neighbors subwoofers. The laconic warbles from the two stars attribute to the enticement of the track, but it’s Kodak Black, rap’s ruggedest hero, who steals the show.

The Florida upstart effortlessly wraps together blues and rap with his contribution, both on the hook and in-song, as his southern fried flow allows for lines like, "I be tryin' change my life, but a monkey on my back / I’ve been rollin' all night, I got a monkey on my back," to be just as infectious as it is striking. Another sticking irresistibility to the record is Kodak’s gooey hook, which he told REVOLT was originally "the first four bars of a song that I came up with."

"That song, we made it weird. It wasn’t all at one time. The hook wasn’t supposed to be the hook really," he revealed. "Then [French] was like, "Oh we can just keep repeating it"… and then we made the hook."

Ultimately, what started off as a freestyle to another record, turned into another streetsweeper for both French and Kodak. With momentum growing behind the record, the duo released the song’s music video on Thursday (June 9). On Saturday (June 11), his 19th birthday, Kodak will also be releasing a brand new mixtape, titled Lil B.I.G. Pac.
