After months of speculation and buildup, Donald Glover’s highly anticipated FX series Atlanta will be officially premiering this summer. As the creator, executive producer and star of the show, Glover is starting his press tour with the release of a teaser trailer.
Born and raised in Georgia, Glover refers to Atlanta as “the Black Mecca” and “the most American place” based on the hustle and grind within the community. The show will follow Earnest “Earn Marks,” played by Glover, as he returns to Atlanta in time to be pulled into the rap game, with his cousin becoming the city’s hottest new rapper. In addition to Donald, the show will co-star Keith Standfield, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Brian Tyree Henry and Zazie Beetz.
Before his music took his career to new heights under the moniker Childish Gambino, Glover got his start on television writing for 30 Rock, before taking on the role of Troy Barnes on Community for five simultaneous seasons.
“There’s more screens that have to be filled,” he told Deadline. “It’s the perfect time to combine everything that media kind of is right now.”
